Day 1006

Gus is “following the leader”… the leader is almost always Sam! Dear Gus is not much of a leader. He is hesitant, easily swayed and is simply a follower. He doesn’t want to cause anyone discomfort or angst, so he goes with the flow. He rarely instigates anything at all and will even allow the others to take the very bone on which he is chewing. No wonder we all have a soft spot for this big guy. We even feel sorry for him.

People are not that different. There are leaders and those who tend to follow. The latter group rarely questions the direction of those in charge. That system is effective… until somebody, following the herd, suddenly looks at the leader and decides it is not the path they want to travel. Although this seldom occurs, it can cause quite a conundrum!

There are various reasons a follower might balk at the course laid out by the leader. Perhaps it seems as if kindness is not a value adhered to or the leader suddenly displays a self-serving nature. There are even times when a follower needs to be heard, but the person in charge shows no respect or patience for such paddle.

As uncomfortable as it may be, there are times when you find yourself in a situation where you simply stop in your tracks and say NO! It might cause great unease in your heart because it is so easy to just “go with the flow.” However, that flow might be headed for rapids or a waterfall!

Listen to that voice within and decide to veer away from the common pathway. You will know it is the right decision when your journey provides peace.

Even Gus puts his paw down now and then! It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, we all know he has decided that he has had enough! Cheers and “Way to go, Gus,” can be heard from everyone in the room! Be a Gus when you need to be!!!
