Day 1142
We had such a lovely visit at Mercy this morning! Ranger is the oldest Therapy Dog there, so he has made many friends through the years. He walked to all of his regular stops and the smiles were abundant.
Suddenly, someone called out in excitement, “Is that Ranger?” Of course, we immediately turned to see who it was and headed back in that direction. After a few minutes of Golden Love, our new friend said,
“I bet you don’t remember me, but I met Ranger eight years ago! I was waiting for an interview when you walked by. He came right over and leaned into me! He knew! Just then, someone stopped by to let me know interviews were running late. The two of you sat with me until I was called back. During those LONG minutes of nervous waiting, Ranger calmed my nerves. He leaned on me and repeatedly put his paw on my lap as we sat with my heart racing. When I finally heard my name, Ranger put his paw in my lap one more time as if to say, ‘Don’t worry, you’ve got this!’…and he was right! I got the job and credit Ranger for keeping me calm and going into the interview in a positive mood. I still keep his trading card picture where I can see it!”
We never know how important an interaction can be during the course of life. Every once in a great while, we get to hear a story about an impact that was made, but usually, we never know.
Ranger is a Rock Star every day, but today, we heard of his impact. Throw the pebble. Watch the ripples. Realize that your small rock might just make a huge difference in someone’s life…even if you never know!
