Day 1167
HOT! Even the dogs want to be inside! We walked early and now only head outside when it is necessary! Feeling so lucky to be surrounded by air-conditioning as the four Goldens encircle my feet!
When I was a child, we had no air-conditioning! Sleeping was hot and the house only grew warmer as the temperatures soared! On the other hand, there was the swimming pool (We literally lived there.), my parent’s Dairy Queen, sprinklers and popsicles. The heat didn’t seem to wilt me as much when I was little… it sure didn’t stop the neighborhood gang from congregating and enjoying the freedom summer offered.
There were a couple of tricks my parents would utilize to cool our home. First, they would darken the house during the day and close all of the drapes. The shade trees helped for about two days, but then all the windows in the house would be opened for the duration. At one end of the house, a fan blew the hot air out while, at the opposite end, another fan blew slightly cooler air in from the other side. They would place cake pans full of ice in front of the incoming fans. Whew! How did we survive?
Today, we will appreciate every degree of cool and keep the Goldens close at hand. No complaining allowed!. If I feel like the heat is getting to me, I will simply tell myself that I can tuck this day away and pull it out in mid-January!!!!
