Day 1196
I'm constantly amazed by the unique language of dogs, and while I may not speak fluent "canine," I've learned to understand their needs by paying attention to their cues. When I say, “Show me,” I am often led to the door, the water dish or the treat container. The Goldens have a way of communicating with their Mom!
As I navigate their world, I'm reminded about the journey of human communication, from the early days of reacting to discomfort (hunger, cold, wet, tired) to developing more refined ways of expressing our wants and needs. Actions are sometimes more telling and informative as we get older!
Just as my Goldens teach me to listen and respond with empathy, I'm inspired to do the same with the people in my life, asking them to "Show me" what they need and working together to fill the voids to bring a greater understanding and connection to our relationships.
Emotions certainly create a need within most as we age and it is often hard to tell what someone needs if they cannot find the words to express their needs. So, like my Goldens, I must observe, listen and empathize with those around me. That type of “showing me” seems to be the best communication out there! Sometimes, all people need is a little love and understanding…throw a Therapy Dog in the mix and things often get better more quickly!
