Day 1229
It is no secret that sweet Ranger misses his sister, Lilly. When I walk outside with the boys after their supper, our 12-year-old stands at the gate by the gazebo. I can’t be certain, but he scans the area where he said goodbye and seems to hope that his littermate will somehow magicslly reappear. We always share a few gentle memories, some scratches behind the ears and then turn to head inside together. It breaks my heart every night…
Interestingly enough, Sam and Gus have picked up on his sadness and can often be found snuggled up to his side and even resting their heads on his back. Their hearts are so understanding. They may not know why, but they realize their big brother needs them.
There have been times in my life when someone simply knew I needed a friend. Out of the blue, these angels appeared and lightened my sorrow. More than once, they didn’t even realize my heart was hurting, yet they arrived when I needed them most and began to heal the pain.
There are times when we feel a pull to make a phone call, send a text, mail a card or even drive over to someone’s home. Listen to the whispers of your heart. Like Gus and Sam…heed that call. It will most certainly make someone’s load lighter.
