Day 1246
Today, we said goodbye to my Harmonica Man. Three days shy of his 102nd birthday, he decided it was time to leave. We miss him beyond measure.
One of Don’s sons requested that a Therapy Dog be present at the funeral and, after a quick check with the church, we promised to be there. Choosing Gus to accompany me was perfect.
Not only did our boy charm everyone, he proceeded to comfort those who needed some extra love. Most of us shed a tear or two, but when “You Are My Sunshine” was played (his favorite song), there were very few dry eyes in the sanctuary. Gus, comforting a dear friend, was torn when his Mama was sad, so he sat right between us and shared his love. He was incredible.
My dear, sweet Don had many friends and family there. At almost 102, it was amazing that so many wanted to honor him…I wouldn’t have missed it for anything. He was my mentor, friend and treasured role model for life. If I could condense his mantra for life into one sentence, it would be “Always be kind to everyone.” He was…
