Day 1248
What a good sport! His jersey actually read, “Wide Retriever”, but we liked “Golden Receiver” much better! Either way, Sam just put up with our shenanigans.
Admittedly, we personify our Golden Boys and expect them to lean into their “human side.” When Mommy and Daddy tuck them in at night, they follow the routine and accept their fate…that of living up to being our furbabies!
As I tried on different costumes for Sam, I realized how patient he was. Putting on that jersey was not his first choice of fun things to do, but he calmly placed his feet in the sleeves and posed for his photo shoot. I guess Halloween brings out the kid in all of us!
Back in the 1960s, I fondly remember being part of the celebration. Oh the joy of being in the Halloween Children’s Parade! We were allowed to go home for lunch to change into our costumes. Returning to school, we were met with a gift from a service organization (I believe they had a short program in the gym) that contained peanut butter candies, a popcorn ball and A NOISE MAKER! That amazing, metal gift was either a horn or a ratchet. Both were equally amazing and Loud! Our poor teachers…we are forever grateful to our teachers!!! (Miss Moen/Johansen is at the top of that list!)
Marching down Main Street seemed surreal. How many times had we been warned about crossing the street…now we actually were expected to walk right down the middle in our finery! Pure bliss!
Sam is ready for Halloween with costumes to spare for his brothers. I have the trick-or-treat candy ready for the 31st, but first we have some parades to watch! Anokans love this time of year!
