Day 1310

So… “Somebody” keeps plucking ornaments from the Christmas tree and destroying them! I have even shed a tear over the most precious ones that have fallen prey to the “Ornament Monster.” For a while, we actually put a fence around the tree and even removed the decorations from the lower three feet. The perpetrator foiled us, so we decided to simply decorate as we always have and cut our losses. We still wanted to discover the guilty party!

This afternoon, I was happily wrapping gifts when I heard the poor Christmas tree cry out for help. In actuality, it was more of a rattling of ornaments followed by a crunching sound. Rushing to the living room, I saw Gus and Sam sniffing the latest victim. Calling the boys to me, they came happily enough and sat trustingly at my feet. When I asked them who had done the dirty work, Gus looked at Sam with disdain while Sammy seemed rather proud of his antics! Sam is our culprit!

Learning long ago that it is better to meet a mistake with honesty and humility, I was amused by Sam’s reaction. He seemed quite proud of himself. Now that I know “who done it,” I can attack the problem with a plan fitting our youngest. His devotion to me will help when I gently explain the error of his ways. Who am I kidding? Perhaps I should simply put dog toys on the lowest branches and let him go to town!
