Day 1587

After receiving the Covid and flu shot on Friday, my body seemed to say, “Excuse me! What WERE you thinking?” I tend to get a bit under the weather with vaccines, so this was no surprise. Needing a few moments to work up the energy to ignore the symptoms this afternoon, I headed into the living room to lie down for a brief spell. I was not alone!

As soon as I kicked my feet up on the couch, five Golden Boys were right beside me. They seemed concerned that I had stopped my activities for the day (I have been labeled “The Energizer Bunny” more than once.) and gathered close. On my feet, next to the couch and, with Charlie actually climbing right on top of me, rest seemed a bit out of reach. They eventually settled down CLOSE BY and gave me the few minutes I needed to rewind my “batteries."

Without words, they showed their love and concern. Dogs are so eloquent. Their eyes, paws and nearness to me touched my heart. Imagining their “doggy discussion,” I guessed it might have gone something like this…

Gus: “Mommy is down! Mommy NEVER goes down, she is ALWAYS up!”

Sam: “Back up! Give her some space. She needs me to be right by her side!”

Charlie and Hank: “This is the best!!! We can lick her face and jump on her!”

Ranger: “She better get up pretty soon because lunch is about 47 minutes away!”

They are so intuitive and loving! We could learn much from their actions without the words. A loving gesture, a small gift, a squeeze of the hand…these need no words to accompany the message that someone cares.
