Day 1604

With the days getting shorter, my walks take me into that magic time between dark and dawn…a truly mysterious period. This quiet time of “waking up” is illustrated in the homes along the way. Warm, yellow lights glow through windows and spill out onto the lawns and sidewalks. It is a most wondrous time for a stroll with my Golden Boys.

I find myself creating stories at some of the homes. Little ones shuffling down the hallway for a morning hug, parents dividing their time between breakfast and preparing for the day, dogs nudging doors to get a chance to sniff any backyard visitors of the night…each vision paints a warm, vibrant portrait of “family.”

My own windows have light-up pumpkins and antique lamps glowing. I wonder what others think about our home as day breaks. Although I could paint a Norman Rockwell portrait of Americana at its best, the reality is, perhaps, even better. Goldens out, in, fed and snuggled at our feet in a contented circle as we plan the day at our dining room table. They watch us for any stray morsel we might share. As the sun hints at its entrance, our walks begin, we take that peace along with us.

Each family doing their morning routine as we all head out to do our best. What more could one ask for?
