Day 379
Anniversaries come but once a year...usually! Mac and I celebrate our wedding anniversary on the 30th of each month. Getting married later in life, we realized we would not get to enjoy our 50th, so we celebrate in "Dog Years" with 12 anniversaries each year! Today is our 194th!
Our two elder Goldens will be celebrating their 10th birthday soon. Dogs don't keep a calendar, but WE DO! The festivities will include Pup Cups from the DQ and perhaps a gift or two! They are spoiled, but so deserving of all the pampering!
It is my belief that birthdays are a time to let loved ones know how much their existence means to you. I often include a note to say that their special day is a gift to all who love them because they entered our lives! Birthdays are almost like a Thanksgiving...thanks to the person for being born and making life more beautiful!
Holidays come once a year! Halloween is big in Anoka, but I am a Christmas Girl at heart! Celebrating another special birthday on that day and sharing gifts, food, lights and family make it full of love. Yes, I do adore that holiday once a year!
We also acknowledge the anniversaries of people passing. Trying not to be sad on those days is a challenge, but sitting down and remembering them is always a gift. On those days, I take a quiet moment to remember the laughter, kindness and the love we shared.
There are historical events that are highlighted on the date it happened. Most of these, I enjoy, although some carry a load of grief or a somber reflection. With each one, I try to face the historical event with empathy and gain new knowledge/understanding. Learning is always a fine way to greet the anniversary of a noted time in history and attempt to grasp the thoughts of the people who participated.
All-in-all, anniversaries are an amazing opportunity to celebrate life! The pups will not like the fact that we are leaving them to go out for a dinner celebration, but they have air-conditioning, three water bowls, bones galore AND Dog TV! Perhaps, we will even bring them a doggy bag! Life is good!
