Day 460
Change is simply a force of nature. At times, it sneaks up slowly to surprise you. Other times, change happens so swiftly it takes your breath away. I am not a fan of change...not one little bit. However, as I walk the journey of life, I have come to accept it as inevitable.
There are times when an abrupt turn appears on the path before you. Maneuvering that new hike can be rewarding or debilitating. There have been changes in my life when I simply focused on putting one foot in front of the other. Everyone experiences those challenges in their lifetime. Although it might not seem like it at the time, that type of change can make a person stronger, more resilient and empathetic. It is still a rough road.
Other unexpected changes lead to a happier, healthier life. Although there is plenty of stress incorporated in this type of shift in life's expectations, contentment might be right around the next bend. Joy always seems to accompany a welcome change.
Today, with our infirmary of Goldens improving, I knew our Lilly could not go on her usual walk with brother, Ranger. Looking at Gus, I invited him to accompany Ranger on the morning walk. This was a first! This change, which will hopefully be reversed when Lilly can walk with ease, made my heart sad. My twins have walked side-by-side for ten years. Change can be so very hard. On the other hand, after a rough start, I was able to observe our Gus settle down and begin to learn from his big brother. Tonight's walk was a beautiful thing with the two boys in perfect unison and harmony.
Tending to be a Pollyanna by nature, I can find the positive in most situations. Playing the "Glad Game," I was pleased for Gus and his ability to learn from Ranger. I suppose change will always have its challenges, but looking on the bright side will help make that path more navigable and pleasant.
As for Lilly, who DID NOT like this change one little bit, she was waiting by the door when we returned. The look in her eyes left no room for doubt. She will be Walking With Goldens again soon!
