Day 523
All of our Goldens, given a window, will look for our return. There may be some brief breaks in their vigilance, but there will ALWAYS be a Golden face in the window upon our return. Whoever is sequestered to the sunroom alerts the others (frustrated without a window view of the driveway) and the glorious greeting begins! We enter to SO much love, chaos and fluffy bodies...I wouldn't have it any other way!
There have been times in my life when I have been the one in the window. Waiting for a loved one's return. My children coming home from a neighbor's house, those same kids driving home from school or evening events, my husband returning from the VA and so many more welcomes that begin with knowing they are home safely.
For our dogs, I wonder if they actually know we ARE returning. Unlike human welcomes at the window or door, these pups don't know where we have been or how long we might be gone. It breaks my heart to think that there are possible feelings of abandonment. I have even thought of having the option of security camera's with voice potential. I could chat with them and they would hear my voice. I know...people might think that is a bit far-"fetched,' but I DO have Dog TV programed on our televisions and that defines the lengths I will go!
Welcoming someone home is such a gift! It tells the individual that they have been missed and are cherished. We are big on celebrations at our house, so a welcome home fits right in! Hopefully, everyone has had the joy of being welcomed home by two- or four-legged loved ones. There are not many feelings that surpass that moment!
