Day 1077
Every day is a gift.
Last August, our seemingly healthy Lilly had her annual exam where we discovered her kidney values and blood pressure were off the charts. Advised to begin the process of saying goodbye, we decided to go to the U of M Veterinary Clinic. Through their expertise and compassion, we still have our girl…almost nine months later. With her diet and medications, she still enjoys life, but we know every day is a gift.
With our Lilly, we have the knowledge that we won’t have her forever. This gives us the time to cherish her and appreciate the little moments. However…what about those loved ones that grace our days without any hint of what might be ahead?
I realize that it is impossible to spend every waking moment focused on the gift of time spent with all our loved ones. Having said that, it is now more natural to appreciate what is right in front of me. I tend to value my time with loved ones more than ever before. Lilly has taught me that lesson.
Lilly just walked over for some of that love and affection, so I will give her my total attention. When she has had her fill and snuggles up for a nap, I will focus on the next loved one for a bit. Because of Lilly, I am more aware of the impact my loved ones have on my heart. I will not take the gift of time with them for granted.
