Day 1080
Do you ever close your eyes and remember your childhood bedroom? I don’t have to imagine that room because I still live in the same house! Sometimes, I sit in a chair in that room and let my mind wander back through time… it was a beautiful childhood! Now, that space has become my studio and is filled with teddy bears, happy pictures and mementos galore. It is one of my ‘Happy Places’ and sets the stage for writing and creating.
It is my belief that everyone needs a place of their own…a place where you can dream, create and simply be still. It doesn’t have to be a huge area or cluttered with “things,” but it should be a refuge!
There have been times in my life when, sitting in silence, I discover my truest self. It’s hard to be dishonest or coy when the conversation is within your heart. Truths, understandings and acceptance have found their way into that room. Stories, illustrations and creative projects have all been born and raised there. However, it is the still, silent times when the real magic happens. I have found that I must grow within before sharing anything worthwhile in my writing, creative spirit or life in general.
When my children were young, and a big sibling challenge arose, I would put MYSELF in “time out!” Finding a quiet place allowed me to process the next parenting step. It worked like a charm. Now, I seek those quiet moments to dig deep and expand my heart. Of course, dogs are ALWAYS allowed in my sanctuary. Their presence only calms my spirit more!
Look around and find your sanctuary…if you have a pet, make sure there is enough room for both of you!
