Day 1084

Ahhhh… the simple pleasures in life! Lilly loves to get a drink from the garden hose and follows us around until we gently offer her a refreshing stream! The rest of the Goldens attempt to follow her lead, but she is the only one who has perfected the “bite and sip!”

There are so many free entertainments in life. A walk in the woods, enjoying a spectacular sunset or simply listening to the birds as they greet the morning would be a few of my favorites. Sometimes, I forget to fully embrace these joys since they ARE free. When we pay for a “non-simple pleasure,” we are more aware of the price we paid…we better enjoy it!

One of my favorite childhood memories would happen every evening. “Jammied up,” my mom would plop us in the back of her convertible for the ride to the Dairy Queen. Stuffies clutched in our little hands, we would be given a chocolate malt to share (my folks owned the DQ) and we would clamber back into the car. She would then drive us over to the railroad tracks where we would wait for the 7:05 freight train to rumble through town. I can still feel the earth shake and the wind in my face as we gleefully enjoyed the malt and the huge train flying by! Today’s children might shake their heads and feel sorry for us!

This afternoon, Lilly and I are honoring “simple pleasures” together… perhaps a chair in the sunshine with my best girl at my feet is in order!
