Day 1109
Our Lilly has one speed…her own! Although she can prance along at a pretty good clip, she mostly chooses to meander when on the leash. Today was no exception.
After a visit to Walker, we signed out and headed home. About half-way to our destination, the rain began. While I encouraged, coerced and bribed Miss Lilly to keep up her pace, she was far more intent upon smelling the flowers. After a bit, I gave in as well!
Rushing often gets you nowhere fast. My encouragement, to move quickly, literally fell on selective deaf ears. It suddenly occurred to me that Miss Lilly had the right idea! I was already wet, why not embrace the rain and enjoy it?
Well, I stopped trying to stay dry and dodge the raindrops and allowed them to wash over me. Noticing the joyous robins, smelling the rich soil and being aware of anything else offered up to my senses was a freeing experience and it simply made me happy…very wet, but happy!
To share the moral of the story, I might borrow a line from other lessons…
“Go with the flow!”
“If you can’t beat them, join them!”
“You can’t fight Mother Nature!”
…or my favorite, “live for the moment!”
Lilly is often my teacher and today was no exception! I feel so lucky to have been on the other end of that very wet leash!
