Day 1119
In most relationships, there are typically two types of individuals…one a leader and the other a follower. Of course, they can exchange roles now and then, but most often, they play their parts. Sam and Gus are the perfect example! Sam leads while Gus follows…until they switch places and Gus rules the day. In my experience, it is often the follower who quietly leads from behind.
Leaders of all types tend to have strong beliefs, thick skin and a “take charge attitude.” It is the greatest hope of the followers that they also have a beautiful heart. Some lead quietly while others make a bold splash. I have seen both and prefer the ones who sit back and silently build their wisdom.
As for the followers, like Gus, they seem to observe and support. Perhaps feeling free to lead in the shadows has a lot to do with a lack of a spotlight which typically illuminates a leader. Followers have the time to process life as they watch from a place out of the limelight. Their suggestions are often critical to a leader’s decisions.
Whether you are a leader, follower or follower who secretly leads, it is good to know that we need all three. If everyone decided to lead, and didn’t rely on those who support them, the world would be “off-kilter.”
Gus and Sam balance one another in a beautifully choreographed “dance” of sorts. Sam leads while Gus usually follows. Sometimes there might be a bit of nudging from behind when it is necessary. Gus can also assert his dominance if need be! It works for them…just ask Sam!
