Day 1124
We were preparing for a weekend away when I turned to see these faces…all seeming to say, “What about me?” Lilly had already assessed the situation and knew her bags had been packed! The boys were not as observant!
As long as we are sitting on the couch, working in the kitchen or doing any other predictable activity, all is well. It is when we step outside of those “lines” that frantic Goldens appear. They want to know that we are staying put! Panting, pacing and “following” ensue with all eyes on the humans when it looks like we just might be leaving. Poor buddies.
Humans are similar by nature, it would seem. Even when adventure looms and entices us to follow, we still like to have an idea of how we are traveling and where we are resting our weary heads when the sun goes down. Planning is part of the fun and a natural need for order.
The only time we have thrown planning to the wind was a trip to Ireland with daughter Amanda and her husband. Our only responsibility was getting in the car! They took care of every tiny detail after that…bliss!
So when the dogs fear their humans might leave them behind, we make sure they are aware of the dog food and bones mixed in with the suitcases. That seems to help. Nobody likes to be left behind…ever!
