Day 1128
What is it about a dog that calms the nerves and warms people’s hearts? You could try to put it into words, but it is a nebulous phenomenon at best. Today at Mercy, where extra love and support was needed, Gus stepped right up to do his part. On one particular floor, he was massaged, scratched, hugged and so much more…he absolutely DID NOT want to leave! When we stepped onto the elevator, I am not sure who was more sad… Gus or the staff!
Observing, from the other end of the leash, I tried to figure out why Gus was such a success in the Calming Game. It seemed that his open heart and loving personality, mixed with that soft coat, opened doors that might be closed to humans. Taking that a step further, I wondered how I could be that supportive to his fan club. The simple answer was that I can’t.
Dogs have no ulterior motive, no need to be accepted, no judgment… no need for anything except to give and receive love. What beautiful beings they are. Always striving to be more dog-like in my heart, today I simply enjoyed my view. Gus touched so many hearts today and I had a front row seat!
