Day 1135

Sammy and I were training down by the river when we came upon a flock of geese (with a couple ducks thrown in for good measure). Expecting my pup to lurch, bark, point… something…I was very surprised when he glanced with little interest and looked at me as if to say, “Mommy! Let’s get going! Birds are boring and I have some sniffing to do!” Goldens are not ALWAYS predictable!

We all have expectations for those in the sphere of our lives. The deeper the relationship, the less chance for a surprising action or reaction. Somehow, that seems reassuring to me. Counting on those surrounding my heart to be steadfast and predictable warms my heart.

Of course, the infrequent surprise can be welcomed as well…as long as it is not earth-shattering! It is those people in our lives who turn out to be someone we didn’t expect, who can be unsettling to our world. Being trusting by nature, I am always taken aback when a person shows a portion of their personality that does not fit with my expectations. Sadly, there have been such people who have crossed my path and I usually decide on distance between us.

The bottom line for me is to be open to surprises from those in my world…but only the good kind! I like to know my inner circle is predictable and reliable! Even though I feel the same about my Goldens, they do surprise me now and then..always in the best way possible.
