Day 1145

Looking up at the sky is not an ordinary occurrence for me. I simply do not take the time to sit and look aloft at the beauty that awaits above. Today, Miss Lilly and I decided to do just that!

My tendency is to look anywhere but up. As a ‘past’ rollerblader (I still have my skates at the ready should I decide to slip on every imaginable pad and encase myself in bubble wrap), for safety reasons I constantly looked at the path lest a stick or rock send me flying. Now, even on my walks with the Goldens, I tend to focus on the sidewalk. There are many times I must forcibly draw my attention to what lies ahead.

Looking at the beauty surrounding me is a joy. It seems that there are wonders and surprises wherever my eyes wander. There is so much to see in this glorious world if we take the time to appreciate its delights.

For me, looking to the sky takes a conscious choice. Unless something draws my attention upward, I tend to place my focus elsewhere. Today, as I sat in the backyard with Lilly and the boys, I tilted my head backwards and took in the glory above. The leaves were moving slightly as the breeze blew them gently on their branches. The azure blue sky, infiltrated with white, wispy clouds, was truly glorious! A few birds and one rogue airplane broke the revery, but we welcomed the distraction.

Invite yourself to visit the sky for five minutes or so. You might be surprised at the peace and ‘uplifting of the spirit’ you experience. There is a reason for the saying, “Things are looking up!”
