Day 1157

Just home from a procedure at Mercy (one of those gifts you receive every decade ) and I am still swathed in gratitude and relief. It was decided that I needed to “sit this one out” this afternoon, regarding dog walks, so my Goldens decided to do what they do best…stay close and dispense love.

The staff at Mercy is amazing and my team today was no exception! Their warm personalities, support, humor and ‘aura of complete professional expertise’ was welcomed by their patient. They all made this procedure palatable and safe with their ability to exude comfort!

It made me consider how the staff's behaviors were chosen early this morning. They smiled, joked, comforted and made me feel at ease. Even my blood pressure remained normal! They didn’t have to go the extra mile for me, but every single one did. How often are we in their shoes with the choice of making another human feel valued and comforted? That probably happens more often than we know.

To tap into that empathy and help someone through a challenge, whether that is a moment in time or a way of life, is an honor. We humans all have the capacity to do just that. My “Empathy Antenna” will be on full alert since I will not soon forget the kindness bestowed on me this day.

For now, I will let my ‘Golden Halo’ bring me back up to 100% and fight the urge to get those leashes out!!!!
