Day 1192
Trust…takes forever to gain and can be lost in a moment. With dogs, and humans, it is worth the commitment it takes to ensure it is never diminished.
We were visiting at Walker when Gus suddenly relaxed against my leg. Soon, he fell asleep with that sweet head in my hand. Looking at that beloved face, I was humbled by the trust he has for me. Although he was a challenge as a puppy, we (somehow) weathered the storm and found clear sailing on the other side. It didn’t just magically happen…it took a concerted effort.
Looking back, there were times I had to take a deep breath and remember that the end result would be worth all of the hard work. With the falconer gloves on as protection from the little razor teeth, Gus and I formed a bond of trust that went both ways. He grew to trust me and I, in turn, found that I trusted l him implicitly.
Guiding a relationship towards trust takes patience and fortitude. It also takes consistency and devotion. More than anything, it takes a belief that trust is worth it in the end… it absolutely is! Gus would agree!
