Day 1203

Brothers…not biological, but in EVERY other sense of the word. Sam and Gus are inseparable and seem to share a deep sense of affection and trust. It is a beautiful thing to see.

It is said that we do not get to choose our family…there is some truth to that. Of course, we can choose to spend time with chosen relatives while avoiding others, but there are times when we don’t get a choice.

Friends can certainly play the part of family members and often do. It has made me ponder why it is sometimes easier to love our friends over our family members…perhaps it is a combination of deep-rooted memories and genetics that are a bit too similar? Whatever the reason, relatives do not always get a free pass to our affections.

Having said that, I have some of the most amazing family members on earth. (You know who you are!). The magic is that they are also my friends and I can honestly tell them I love them. To have family that are friends and friends who are family is a true gift! Like Gus and Sam (Ranger too), the deep sense of love and trust is a “Family Recipe” worth sharing!
