Day 1238

I had found a welcoming chair…one of my Nanny’s… and began to write Goldens. After a moment, I heard frantic, pitiful puppy cries. Jumping up and quickly moving through the house, I found my Sammy looking up the stairway. When he saw me, he visibly relaxed and stopped whimpering. Poor baby! He had missed my choice of chairs and thought I had deserted him! Now, I am in a more “typical” chair and my three boys are at my feet. All is well.

Last night, we were lucky enough to see “White Christmas” with loved ones at The Chanhassen Dinner Theater. What a show! Having been fortunate to go to that venue a number of times, one trip stood out in my memory. Driving there with my date was no problem. I am sure the show was amazing, but what sticks out is my mind was stepping into the vestibule area and seeing a frightening blizzard in progress! No in-depth weather predictions, cell phones, no road alerts…just two teenagers with bravado. Of course, we headed to the car and began our journey home. FOUR HOURS later, my date walked me to the door only to meet my father there with the same look I just saw on Sam’s face. Of course, he didn’t berate us, but let us know he was thankful we were safe. (He had already alerted the State Patrol!!!)

Last night was a beautiful evening with weather reports, GPS, cell phones and anything else needed to make us feel safe. What a difference fifty years makes!

Whether it is an errant “mommy,” a tardy daughter or any other experience when a loved one is missing, to find them or witness their safe return is simply the best feeling ever! Thank goodness for today’s technology, which helpd us stay connected and sincere gratitude for those who love us enough to care about our safety!
