Day 1243
“Mom!!!! Just a little romp and a swim in the lake???”
Fences are there for a reason. When we bought our little cottage, the very first thing we did was to fence the entire yard! Not only keeping them safe from other dogs and wild animals, but making certain that their absolute lust for swimming was “cur-tailed”! We have never regretted that purchase!
It would seem that a fence has two purposes. One, to keep something in and safe while the other is to keep harm on the outside…out of reach. There is some truth to that. However, Sammy would beg to differ.
If you depend on those barriers for complete safety, you might be giving them too much credit. Fences can be climbed, jumped and “tunneled under” to get to the other side and perceived adventure. Sometimes, it is worth the effort, but other times…regret.
Of course, this whole message is a metaphor for weighing the advantages of jumping over the fence. Enticed by adventure, freedom or simply wondering if the grass is truly greener, it might just be worth the risk. It might also be wise to stay put and be grateful for what surrounds you.
