Day 1261

Resisting this lion costume for the boys was nearly impossible for me. (We may have more than one!) The Golden Boys were not as enthusiastic as their mommy, but they went along with my whim. Of course, laughter was part of the formula!

Humor is a big part of life here at The Big White House. Along with released endorphins, camaraderie and memory making, simply seeing smile or hearing a belly laugh is healing to the spirit. Smiles are contagious!

Today, Gus and I walked the halls at Mercy Hospital and I noticed something incredible. Every single person who approached Gus wore a smile on their face. Perhaps it wasn’t there when they entered, but our Golden Boy certainly received a smile from everyone as he interacted with each patient, staff member and visitor. He doesn’t even need to try!

I have joked in the past that if I walked around venues without one of my sidekicks and told people I wanted to “make their day better,” most would call security! so, what do the Goldens have that is lacking in me? I believe it their soft essence. Not only is their fur soothing, but those faces exude love, tolerance and empathy.

Perhaps, I need to spend a little time in front of a mirror perfecting the Golden Look… or I could always slip into the lion costume! That would certainly bring security running!
