Day 1260

Unexpected kindness is a beautiful thing. Often, we plan and design acts of kindness and caring so that they meet with success in the end. That is not a bad thing at all, but those spontaneous behaviors that come from the heart are such gifts. When you experience one, it is a true gift indeed.

Today, Ranger and I headed over to the neighborhood elementary school to read with young students. Meeting in the music room, the readers would arrive in small groups to share a book or two while Ranger listened with enjoyment. At a break between these small groups, the resident educator, who typically uses that classroom, quietly delivered a bowl of water to our big guy. As he lapped it up gratefully, my heart was touched by her unexpected kindness. It was a simple act, but such a lovely one.

Whenever I get an urge to follow my heart on the path of kindness, I try not to deny it. Like that bowl of water, you never know where the ripples of goodness might end! You will never go wrong by choosing to perform a kind act… no matter how small.
