Day 1285
Once the snow arrived, I didn’t even contemplate walking the Boys! Too cold…too slippery…
Running errands today, I ran into a dear friend who gives the BEST hugs EVER! We both mentioned that we had missed seeing each other on our walks. I pointed out the cold/slippery issues and he shared that he simply bundles up and walks in the street. Hmmm…. On my way home, I drove our walking route and decided it was clear enough to head out. No excuses! We all enjoyed our jaunt!
Being a child of the '50s and '60s, we never worried about the cold. I remember my mom putting an extra pair of wool socks on my feet followed by bread bags and rubber boots. A second pair of pants were pulled on along with a “ski jacket” with little to no insulation! A hat was tied on and then mittens (not waterproof or insulated) were tucked up my sleeves. Finally, I was released into the winter landscape where I played until my extremities were numb!
Back inside, the boots, bread bag and socks were taken off and we would put our tingling feet on the radiators that heated The Big White House. The frostbite was real!
As a child, the cold and ice never slowed me down! Now, with warm insulated clothes and shoes that grip the ground, I have no excuses! So, “Walking With Goldens” will continue with gratitude for the warmth of clothing and my beloved pups at my side.
The Boys already have their winter gear on, so no complaints from them!
