Day 1287
Today, The Big White House hosted a beautiful family for an afternoon of friendship. There were two amazing “young people” who made the party complete! They were respectful, charming and well-behaved. Even the Goldens were enamored with their new friends. Sammy was right in the mix, but eventually decided on a moment to rest on the couch…although he did try to follow them out the door when it was time to leave.
Hosting gatherings is such a joy. Baking, setting the table, planning…all fun and rewarding for me to watch as it unfolds when the guests arrive. I did make a mistake by cutting that preparation time a bit short. Having spent the morning helping a senior friend prepare their bedroom to welcome a new mattress (Kathy… you are the best to be my tag-team for this “opportunity”!), the timing was a challenge after I returned home.
Typically, I make a list and schedule for any entertaining. Having everything prepared and looking like I didn’t lift a finger is my plan when the doorbell rings. Well, I did not plan within an inch of my life, so a couple parts of my entertaining were lacking! (Sorry about the not-so-hot chocolate my Friends!). Still, my gracious guests claimed all was well.
Planning is essential for this girl! Whether it is a party, a shopping endeavor, Christmas gifts or practically anything I do, if planning is not in place, perfection goes out the window! Perhaps that is OK. It humbles me and allows my guests to show their grace and understanding…and they did!
Make lists, but allow for little “blips” in the plans to make everything more human. That is absolutely fine!
