Day 1292
Our sweet Sammy had a run-in (literally) with a drawer handle a couple of weeks ago. “Mid-Zoomies,” he misjudged a skid which ended up with him sliding into a kitchen drawer. Poor baby…he chipped his front teeth. A quick trip to the doctor confirmed that we needed to address the injury. This morning, we dropped our boy off for a front tooth extraction. He was not happy.
We had wonderful communication with our medical team at Elm Creek, with text updates and phone calls during surgery. We were told to pick him up at 3:00 so they could observe him post surgery. At noon, they called and explained that Sam was so upset that the consensus was he would recover better at home. We were there in minutes and bundled him into the car. He had been crying, shaking and frothing. The minute he saw us, he settled down. At home, he snuggled with his Mama all afternoon with a soft whimper now and then… or was it a sign of contentment? Either way, he was home and his peace was profound.
“There’s no place like home.” We have all experienced a homecoming in our lives. Much like Sammy, we felt love and safety as we walked through the door and our fears were calmed. Even though families might have a few ripples in the calm, home still holds that feeling of belonging and acceptance.
We are feeling blessed that our youngest is recovering well and that we can provide him with that feeling of love and safety that he so desperately needed today.
