Day 1296
Humbled…totally humbled by the love of a dog. Their devotion is pure, nonjudgmental and unending. There are few things in life that touch my heart in such a way.
Of course, the love of family, faith and blessings humble me as well. However, I adore those moments when something surprises me into humbleness. Out of the blue, I will be witness to a seemingly “secret” event with only me as an audience of one.
Yesterday, in the cold and wind, I went out to share my daily bird seed offering with the chickadees and other hungry winged friends. I approached the bird feeders and, for the first time, instead of dispersing, they sat on the branches of a nearby bush and waited patiently for me to finish. A couple of cardinals joined the flock. I spoke softly to them and thanked them for their beauty. I was humbled by their trust.
Volunteering at our neighborhood school with Ranger, we had finished reading with students and had stepped into the hall… the very one I walked through as a child. I was welcoming warm memories from the past (Miss Moen was certainly one of them) as a class came towards us. One face, in particular, lit up with surprise and love. Silently checking with the teacher for permission, one little guy left the group and hurried into my outstretched arms. Asher…Totally humbled.
Look for those “secret” moments that humble your heart. No one else may realize what is going on inside, but you know…and that is a gift.
