Day 1297

There are at least two sides to fear. One is helpful while the other is debilitating. Our sweet Gus missed a jump into the Subaru and landed on the bumper, on his tummy. He has let me know there will be no more attempts. After our visit to Mercy, he finally, SLOWLY, slithered into the back seat. Remaining on the car floor, he looked at me as if to say, “This is the best I can do…take it or leave it!”

Gus has many fears which can be instructive or destructive. There are times when they keep him safe and other times immobilize him with fright. He has a lot in common with his Mama. I, too, have my fair share of things that frighten me and those which mostly keep me safe. For example, I am fearful of sharks so I do not swim where THEY swim. On the other side of that coin, I fear that something could happen to a loved one. That one freezes my heart and, when choosing activities, it stifles my creativity. Both sides deal with safety, but the latter can hold me back from success.

Fear…friend or foe? I guess it is more of a friend… keeping us safe. As long as it doesn’t guide ALL of our decisions! As for “Gus Gus”, I better get the ramp out!
