Day 1303

This boy has a built-in alarm clock when it comes to “Tummy Time.” At the appointed hour (sometimes actually the minute), Ranger starts barking. It begins softly, builds to a crescendo and eventually finds us with a big old Golden in our lap…still barking. He simply wants what he wants!

Perhaps people are born that way, or “nurtured” to expect immediate gratification. I admit that there are a handful of individuals in my world who fit that description. For those of us who patiently wait our turn, it is hard to understand their urgency.

We have all encountered them at stop signs, in lines at the grocery store or at gas pumps. I typically allow them to go first and enjoy their surprised reaction when they no longer need to jockey for position. The other day, I offered to let a shopper go in front of me while waiting in line at a store. She thanked me and then said, “Actually, it feels good to have an excuse to slow down and do nothing for a moment or two.”

In this fast-paced world, where it seems everyone is rushing to be first in line, I say let them…and utilize the unexpected gift of a few moments where nothing is urging you to rush forward.

As for our Ranger Boy, his urgency to get that food in front of him is here to stay!
