Day 1338
Today Gus and I headed over to Mercy where this Therapy Dog was welcomed with open arms. Smiles showed up on stressed faces, hands reached for soft fur and voices could be heard asking us to wait as visitors hurried down the hallways to simply touch him. Gus made a real difference today…he made the world a better place.
Later, I was at Target and headed over toward a cashier. There were two men in line before me when I noticed the first gentleman was realizing he didn’t have enough money to cover his purchases. Reaching into my purse to help make up the difference, the young man between us softly said, “I’ll get that for you.” I paused to see how it would play out…
1st man: “You don’t have to do that.”
2nd man: “ It’s fine. Go ahead.”
1st man: “ Thank you, but I can put a few things back.”
Cashier: “Please let him help. You will both be blessed by the offer.”
1st man: My Social Security check will be here tomorrow. I can just come back.”
Me: “I believe he really wants to do this.”
1st man: “Well… OK. Bless you! Bless you!”
What a way to believe in human kindness again!
The cashier was so right! Not only was the first elderly man blessed, but the much younger man, who helped him, was blessed as well.
What a beautiful scene to witness. The cashier and I agreed that we both felt our hearts had grown as well. My motto is, “Always err on the side of kindness.” The young man did just that.
