Day 1341
The frigid weather has been challenging for the Golden Boys. Walks are always part of the routine and the doggy door gets a lot of use on a typical day. When the thermometer dips WAY below zero, activities resort to following Mama around the house. The Goldens are sweet and patient but they are full of energy and angst. If they could only talk, it might go something like this…
Sam: I just came in, but is anyone ready for a romp in the backyard?
Gus: I would follow you anywhere!!!
Ranger: Why don’t you two relax and watch Hallmark with me?
Sam: I am going to follow Mama around and sit in her lap every chance I get!
Gus: Good plan!
Ranger: As long as she is watching Hallmark, I’m in!
However, they do not have a voice to explain their wants and needs, but they have a way of communicating . They can look me right in the eye, nudge my arm, wag a tail or bark at the door...to name a few. I know exactly what they are saying.
Humans sometimes use words when a simple gesture or look would suffice. A hug, a hand placed gently on a shoulder or a meaningful look can speak volumes. Where words can sometimes be misconstrued, a nonverbal message is rarely confusing.
There might just be some times when I need to gently squeeze a hand or look at someone right in the eyes with acceptance, understanding and love. Nobody would argue with that!!
