Day 1344

We can usually tell so much about health by how the boys are eating. Our schedule revolves around their three meals and two of the Goldens always dig right in. Gus needs to be convinced. Once he begins, he devours it in moments!

There have been times in my life when food is not appealing. Illness and loss come to mind, but food is rarely unappealing to me! There has been a time-or-two when that was not exactly true.

When I was young, I was invited over to a friend’s home for dinner. It was a large family, so one more blended in… not for long. Passing the meal options around the table, a bowl of Brussels sprouts landed in my hands and I quickly passed it on. The mother suddenly said, “Everyone at the table has to TRY each type of food!” I hesitated just a heartbeat and delivered one sprout to my plate. Trying to be a good sport, I popped it in my mouth. Big mistake! The entire meal presented itself for a “review”! Never again…Brussels sprouts!

I learned a valuable lesson that day. Never force food on ANYONE! Of course, the “Minnesota Three Offers” is inherent, as we are a state that prides itself on its warm hospitality. However, those sprouts taught me a valuable lesson in the importance of respecting everyone’s food preferences. Never force food on anyone…even Gus!
