Day 1367

Our “Halo of Goldens!”

This crew brings us such joy! Along with that, they also offer laughter, love and exhaustion! The happiness they bring others is a bonus as well!

We refer to them as brothers even though the two youngest are the only ones who genetically share that title. Sam is their uncle (Mama Winni is his full sister), but Gus and Ranger have no known genetic link. Still they share many character traits.

When I was younger, an elderly neighbor proclaimed that I reminded her of my grandmother. (My Nanny had passed the year before.) Feeling the warmth of that comment fill my heart, I asked her what it was that reminded her of Nanny. She responded with, “It is your smile and the way you move your hands.” I have held that memory close.

My father was in officer training for service in WWll (he used to joke about graduating Harvard in six weeks!) when someone walked up and asked him if his last name was Farrier. When he told him it was, the man shared with him that he had met his cousin, Granville, and they were mirror images of one-another.

We carry on those genetic traits whether we want to or not. It is the qualities we assimilate from our relatives that might be even more important. Kindness, caring, goodness…those are the traits that carry down through modeling and observation.

I certainly watched my beloved elders. Hopefully, if I am being watched and emulated, it’s for a few good choices!

For the pups, I hope they take the best qualities of each older “brother!”
