Day 1374

Day 1474. “Walking With Goldens”

Ranger and I frequent a few local schools where we share books in a variety of ways. We read to entire classrooms, share books with small groups and even read with students one-on-one. Each experience is a gift.

Walking into a room with a big, golden dog always steals the show. The children simply want to touch him…even those who are fearful. Eventually, we all settle down with Ranger curled up at my feet. I open a book and the magic begins.

Being an avid reader, it doesn’t surprise me that books can draw young ones in, but the intensity of their gaze and the settling of their very beings always touches my heart. They are pulled into the story and illustrations like a “tracking device” from Star Wars and their reality seems to fade as they lean in for every word. Books are a treasure trove of fantasy.

After we read the last page and close the book, it is almost as if they have to shake themselves out of their imagination aura and back into reality. Ranger stands up and the young listeners line up to give him some love. Everyone parts with happiness in their hearts.

It is such a treat to take these young listeners on a creative journey with words on a page. If Ranger could, we would high five after the classroom door closes. Wait… he CAN!!!!
