Day 1395

Wherever we are, they are as well. All five Goldens choose to be near. They could make so many other choices, but they want to be close. It warms my heart.

They know we mean safety and love. What a lovely feeling to have…and to give. Of course, we offer them food and shelter, but it is more than that. They seem to crave touch, soft words and proximity. Whenever I need to touch some Golden Silk, I simply reach down and there is always one within reach.

There have been people in my life who have offered that feeling of safety and love to me. Family members and friends created a “well of peace” within me and I appreciate that foundation. Having said that, it would seem you must be open to welcoming the offerings. There are those who do not welcome them. Those are the people in my world who create confusion in my heart.

You can’t make someone open up to the care you might offer. We are all “wired” differently and there are those private people who do not welcome hugs, kind words or empathy. They are often my special projects and attempts are made to nudge them closer. Mostly, they are a work in progress.

I am so glad that the majority of humans are open to kindness and love. We just have to take the first step or two. Perhaps that is why dogs are so very close to my heart. You offer love and, they not only welcome it, they give it right back…tenfold!
