Day 1396
We all have items that bring us comfort. Last night, as we transition Gus from his kennel to “nighttime freedom”, he snuck back in to grab his beloved Snuggle Puppy before settling down next to his Mom. After the world’s biggest sigh, he tucked his beloved “stuffy” under his head and closed his eyes. Precious Boy…
My own 69-year-old stuffed dog stands watch as I sleep. Brownie has been with me through thick-and-thin and is a beloved reminder of a beautiful childhood and beyond. Loved, literally, to pieces, my own mother sewed a “turtleneck” onto my friend to hold the stuffing in. If Brownie could talk!
Thinking of other items that touch my heart, I realize it is the giver or history that makes each one special. A ring, a rocking chair, an old dog collar, a special rock…all bring loved ones to the surface of my heart. Countless treasures reside in my home and all are filled with such loving memories.
Like Gus, I keep these things close for comfort. They also trigger the most beautiful memories that resurface whenever I see them. These precious possessions might not appear as special to anyone else, but to me they are a treasure trove of my life’s journey.
