Day 1420
Mr. Ranger loves to be outside. As much as we love watching the younger boys run and wrestle, it is our senior gentleman who really seems to appreciate spring. He finds a semi-shady poace to hunker down and then simply watches the world go by. I feel peaceful by being near him and watching his expression of total bliss.
There is something freeing about the spring weather. It holds a promise of what is to come and for Minnesotans, that is a huge promise! After sliding, slipping, shoveling and shivering, we feel as though our reward has come!
There are very few things in my life where I expect a reward. Of course a paycheck was always welcomed, but other activities have always provided their own reward…
Walking dogs…companionship
Yard work…pretty to look at
Piano lessons…eventually, music to enjoy
That list could go on forever with intrinsic rewards following each activity. When I think about it, extrinsic rewards have never been as valuable to me and that’s a good thing. When you appreciate the “gifts” that follow your choices, that is the quickest way to happiness in life.
Now Ranger has the right idea…just sit and enjoy what is right in front of you. He doesn’t even have to work for it!
