Day 1429

It is often said there is strength in numbers. Today, as we sat on the front porch, Charlie and Hank were “concerned” about the traffic on the road. Hank crawled onto my lap (all 42 pounds of puppy) and eventually jumped down to join his brother at the gate. Every vehicle brought their bodies closer together. They seemed to derive great comfort from each other.

There have certainly been times in my life when “numbers” of people have also brought me comfort. When you are sad or grieving, the support of friends and loved ones soothes the soul. On more than one occasion, my dear friend, Pinky, simply showed up with groceries, hugs and words of encouragement. It made each battle much easier to face. Being there for others is life-giving to both the giver and the receiver.

There have also been times in my life when, knowing the “numbers” are nearby to catch you, you must face the challenge alone. Those are the hardest mountains to climb, but they can also make you stronger and wiser.

Be there for others.

Allow others to care for you when the road is bumpy.

Embrace battles that make you more powerful in the end.

Charlie and Hank would agree… unless there’s only one bone! Then you’re on your own!
