Day 1439

Yesterday was “National Therapy Dog Day!”

We are beyond blessed with three certified boys. (Two more coming up through the ranks.)

When out visiting, the question often arises…

“Do you think my dog could be a Therapy Dog?”

My answer is always encouraging.

Daughter Amanda has a pit-bull mix who was adopted from the Humane Society. She was leash reactive, defensive and scared little children. Needless to say, the humans and dog were not too welcome at family functions.

We hired a trainer (the amazing Tiffany) to come to our home for guidance. Within minutes, Batchka was doing a meet-and-greet with our pack and all was calm. Tiffany’s pointers about the leash aggression and signs of the pup “ramping up” were noted and then suggestions of how to be Alpha, so Batchka didn’t need to, were monumental! She went through training and became a beautiful Therapy Dog! At 18, she’s still going strong!

Can any dog be a Therapy Dog? Yes! With commitment and a heart to share, the answer will always be positive!

For those who don’t have the time or real desire, my answer is “Every dog is a therapy dog. Some of them just aren’t certified!”

Happy belated National Therapy Dog Day! My boys make the world a better place…they certainly have made mine beautiful!
