Day 1444

It’s nice to have my Goldens near…very near! Often called “Velcro Dogs,” where I go, they go. It is a lovely feeling, but comes with a load of responsibility! Food, exercise, doggy door duty, grooming, training, safety precautions… the list goes on and on! It is lovely to be needed and take care of these precious babies, but every now and then, it is nice to escape.

We do not take long trips these days, but there was a time when we were able to embrace an adventure or two. Even then, responsibilities loom and relaxation sometimes takes a backseat. This was not the case on a spectacular trip to Ireland.

Daughter Amanda and her husband accompanied us on that adventure and took ALL of the responsibility on their shoulders. As Mac would say, “All we had to do was pack and carry our suitcases out to the car." From there, the Dynamic Duo took care of every other detail. They had booked the Air B&Bs, rented the car, drove said car (manual transmission AND on the left side of the road), arranged tours and even made the coffee! We were treated like beloved children and it was amazing! Typically being in the role of the responsible ones, that trip was so memorable and a true gift.

Back in the saddle, I place the Responsibility Hat on my head and feel thankful I have so much and so many to be responsible for! The trust placed in those of us who hold the titles of matriarchs and patriarchs is humbling. We have so many experiences under our belts that not much can throw us off that horse!

Still…it is nice, once-in-a-while, to just jump in the back seat and go along for the ride!
