Day 1478

Early this morning, I discovered our sprinkling system has a glitch. The little guys get to go outside first, so out we went. Standing in the backyard, all three of us were shocked when the sprinkler heads emerged and “seemingly” targeted us! I escaped first while it took Charlie and Hank a bit longer to find a dry exit. I kept my cool.

We were relatively dry from that episode when we all went to the living room to do devotionals. Sam was so happy with the arrangement that he wagged a full cup of coffee onto the carpet! Still my reaction was lovingly mild.

The third encounter with our ‘wet and wild’ morning came as I noticed “someone” had an accident in the living room. Both pups stood by the site of the “No! No!” and looked absolutely innocent. You simply can’t punish them both, so they watched me clean the area while I reminded anyone with furry ears that this is NOT the backyard!!!! Still, I did not overreact!

There are times when my emotions erupt softly (just ask Mac), but nobody benefits from true anger. Being on the receiving end of someone’s loud negative reaction a time or two has helped me to understand that there are no winners in a verbal sparring. Everyone leaves the ring reduced, emotionally spent and knowing there is unfinished business. In my current life, my sweet husband has the deepest well of love and understanding. We know that, if we have a disagreement, holding hands and talking it out is the best choice.

We should all be like dogs. When a mistake is made or a correction necessary, they briefly take it in and then literally shake it off! Being surrounded by my Halo of Goldens, I am learning that lesson well!
