Day 1479

This was a morning of “one thing led to another” at The Big White House! Little hands (or big ones) pushed the latches down on an antique trunk upstairs. Enter, a milk bottle full of keys from our past. I dumped the keys out to look for possible matches to the trunk lock and began to walk down Memory Lane.

There were keys with my parents’ handwriting, some from cars we had long ago traded, antique keys that open doors we have removed from the house and a true plethora of “mystery keys.” Of course, we have kept them just in case they are ever needed. We smiled when the realization hit that none of them worked on our trunk.

I am a “keeper.” I have been known to say, “If it is not in this house (or my purse), you don’t need it!” That being said, the house is FULL of four generations of treasures. Today, we had a bit of a “Domino Effect” and cleaned/tossed a number of items that were no longer needed…some we couldn’t even identify! It felt freeing!

Most of my own children are Minimalists and don’t have any desire to acquire much at all. Thank goodness for daughter Katie, who shares some of my love for the past and the items that define those times.

Back to the trunk that started the entire “Cleaning Fest”…it’s still solidly locked, but my amazing husband found a bobby pin from our decluttering frenzy, is fast at work.

Hmmmm…I wonder what treasures we will find when it’s opened?
