Day 1494

Our sweet Ranger LOVES to sleep on a couch! His days of jumping up on the bed might be gone, but couches are accessible one paw at a time. He is allowed on the furniture…they all are. For Ranger, it must be especially comfy with his senior aches and pains.

There are many who do not believe in allowing pets on furniture and I respect their decisions. However, at The Big White House, the invitation to join us (or go solo) on any piece of furniture is the norm. It has been a very long time since a dog has been evacuated from any chair, couch, bed or other horizontal resting place. I know it is comfy and they are near their humans.

We have only lost two couches to our menagerie. Miss Oreo (our beloved border collie/Australian shepherd) decided to chew an arm off of a relatively new sofa. Arthur (our dear first Golden) was so upset he “relieved himself” on the matching loveseat! Both pieces were beyond saving, but it certainly didn’t stop us from allowing them up on the replacements!

Use the old China, wear the new shoes, spray the newest perfume and let the dogs on the couch. I often ask myself, “What am I saving them for?” (Just don’t put that antique Noritake China in the dishwasher!)
