Day 1507
This morning the Golden Halo is exhausted. The power went out in the middle of the night and their slumber was rudely interrupted! Air conditioning, night lights, fans…everything that makes them feel comfortable and safe suddenly stopped. Of course, their “loving keepers” had to move fast to find light and soothe ragged nerves. Our bed looked like a scene from “The Sound of Music” and I actually found myself tempted to sing a verse of “My favorite Things”!
Eventually, power was restored and we all settled in to finish out the night. Failing to fall asleep immediately, I found myself marveling at the many comforts surrounding me. Not only was the air cool and fresh, but soft lighting illuminated any path or corner. Soft beds for all and a roof over our heads to keep the storm at bay were also appreciated. That was only the start of my beautiful “rabbit hole”. One gratitude led to another until a peaceful slumber found me.
I so often forget to be grateful for the gifts right before my eyes. Life becomes so inundated with “things” we feel the need to address that beauty and wonder often take a back seat. Understandably, most of these need to be honored in some way (jobs, commitments, chores, etc.), but it would seem critical to balance some of the mundane with the beautiful gifts that might be unnoticed as we march along.
Keeping a Gratitude Journal is one way I keep the joys of each day. If that is just one more chore, try “counting your blessings instead of sheep” (musicals are on my mind) as you drift off each night. A bonus might even be a dance card of beautiful dreams.
